Summer Activities in Michigan
Moderate temperatures and long days make summer in the Upper Peninsula beautiful. Though a popular travel destination throughout the year, the UP really comes to life during the summer. Reel in a Big One
With countless rivers, streams and, of course, the Great Lakes, Michigan is prime fishing territory. A couple hot spots include Ford Lake Park in Ann Arbor and Hines Park and Elizabeth Park in Trenton. Most public marinas on Lake Erie, Lake Superior, Lake Huron and Lake Michigan Lake St. Clair and the Detroit River have fishing piers as well.
Relax on the Beach
Michigan may be far from the ocean, but with borders on four Great Lakes, there are plenty of beaches to check out. Spend some time splashing in the waves, then slap on some sunscreen and soak of some rays on the sand.
Explore the Great Outdoors
Michigan has tons of wilderness to check out, especially in the sparsely-populated Upper Peninsula. Local, county and state parks spread throughout Michigan are the perfect place for hiking and camping. There are also several nature centers where you can check out a number of interesting programs.
Make a Splash
Michigan’s southeast region is home to several waterparks. Head to Madison Heights to check out Waterford Oaks Waterpark, Red Oaks Waterpark or Ypsilanti’s Rolling Hills Water Park. Take in a Tigers Game
If you’re a sports fan, head to Detroit to see a Tigers game at Comerica Park. The fun and family promotions are always a homerun! While you’re here, be sure to enjoy the Ferris wheel and take a ride on the carousel. If you visit on a Friday or Saturday, you may even get a chance to check out some fireworks following the game.
